Billa Park Simmentals began with the purchase of its first Simmental bull in 1980 from the Wyalla Stud at Texas. The Siegfried son, Sundowner RA X 0719 bull was mated to Hereford cows and hence the stud was established.
As with any breed, Simmentals have seen their share of highs and lows – many of which the stud itself has weathered over the years. In the late 1990s, Billa Park would been wound-up if it wasn’t for the passion and belief of brothers Scott, Wayne and Luke York. From this point, the stud has grown in size from 30 pure cows to over 250 with the help of the boys’ parents Cliff and Joy York.
2009 saw the biggest expansion in the stud so far Billa Park’s purchase of the entire Bushlands Simmental Stud. After years of similar breeding programs, the opportunity of purchasing the entire herd was too good an option to pass up.
Below will take you through a timeline of all the critical points in the history of Billa Park that have inevitably changed and developed the herd:
1980Purchase of first Simmental bull: Sundowner RA X0719
1982Purchase of Dunmore Hansel for $5500. A bull to leave a lasting impression.
1987Lothlorian Herod was purchased. L Herod really raised the bar for Billa Park.
199213 cow and calves were purchased from the Wakatani Stud at Orange. These cows played a huge role in the stud through the
‘90s and many of Billa Park’s current cows go back to those bloodlines.
1995Billa Park was the major vendor at the 1st Wandoan Simmental and Simbrah Sale, Wandoan Qld. Every year Billa Park continued on as a vendor at this sale except 1, until it’s conclusion in 2008. The sale was subsequently moved to Roma and continues on
annually in that location.
2000Cliff and Joy pass the stud down for sons Scott, Wayne and Luke to carry on.
2002Billa Park’s main location moves from Wandoan to ‘Glengyle’, Dulacca – where the stud herd still presently resides.
